On Wednesday, Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian called on Western nations to halt their support for Israel. He made this appeal to “prevent” a regional conflict amid escalating military tensions. His comments came in light of the assassination of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh, which occurred last week in Tehran.
Pezeshkian had a discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron. He stated that “the United States and Western nations should take immediate action. If they wish to avoid war and insecurity in the region, they must cease selling weapons. They should also stop backing the Zionist regime.” He criticized these countries for supporting “a regime that ignores international laws and regulations.”
Tensions in the Middle East have intensified. This follows Haniyeh’s assassination on July 31 in Tehran. The act is attributed to Israel, which has not officially responded to the incident. Iran and its allies intend to retaliate. This includes Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese Hezbollah. Their actions heighten concerns in the volatile landscape of the ongoing war in the Gaza Strip. The conflict marked its eleventh month on Wednesday.
