Tom Cruise, l’autre Chevalier de ce week-end olympique

Here is a decoration that was missing from his long list of achievements. On Saturday, July 27, the Minister of Culture, Rachida Dati, honored Tom Cruise. She made him a Knight of the Arts and Letters.

“His filming of Mission Impossible in Paris in 2017 beautifully showcased our capital,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). She continued: “His passionate defense of cinemas inspires all lovers of the big screen.” That’s the tribute. Tom Cruise is not the first American actor to receive this honor. The award recognizes “those who, through their creations in the artistic or literary field, have brought visibility to the Arts and Letters in France and around the world.”

Prior to the star of the Mission Impossible franchise, famous actresses, actors, and directors have received the highly coveted republican badge. Notable figures include Cate Blanchett (2012), George Clooney and Jude Law (2007), Dirk Bogarde (1982), and Tim Burton (2010). The badge is divided into three ranks: Knight, Officer, and finally Commander, the highest rank. In all arts combined, abroad, Alejandro Iñárritu (2019), Eric Clapton (2017), Iggy Pop (2017), the late Donald Sutherland (2012), Jerry Lewis (1984), and Leonardo DiCaprio (2005), among others, have also received the supreme award
