“Good fruits for hydration on a hot day include cherries and strawberries. Watermelon, cucumbers, and celery are also great options,” says Dr. Railsback. She suggests making a smoothie to incorporate these hydrating fruits, as it not only provides refreshment but also boosts hydration.

When spending time outdoors, it’s best to avoid drinks containing caffeine. These include coffee, tea, or energy drinks. Caffeine can dehydrate you. Alcohol should also be avoided, as it can deplete necessary electrolytes and fluids, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion.
“Alcohol can definitely deplete your body of necessary electrolytes and fluids. This depletion makes it easier to get heat exhaustion out in the sun,” Dr. Railsback explains.
